Traveling doesn’t have to cost a fortune! With a little planning and some savvy strategies, you can fund your dream vacation without straining your wallet. Here are some smart ways to save for your next adventure:
1. Scan Receipts with Fetch Rewards
One of my favorite travel hacks is using the Fetch app to scan receipts. Each receipt earns points that I can redeem for ride-share gift cards. These gift cards cover my rides to hotels, cruise ports, and airports, saving me valuable cash for other trip expenses. They also offer a variety of gift cards for shopping, travel, entertainment, etc. Sign up for free with link using my referral code (R88M5A) and we’ll each earn points when you snap your first receipt.
2. Prebook Offsite Parking
Airport parking can be expensive, but there’s a simple solution: prebook parking at offsite lots. These options are often more than 50% cheaper than onsite airport parking. The savings can go straight into your travel fund—or toward an unforgettable excursion!
3. Earn Bank Bonuses for Extra Cash
Many banks offer sign-up bonuses when you open a Certificate of Deposit (CD) or high-yield savings account. I’ve used these bonuses to cover the cost of dog sitters while I’m away, turning a routine expense into a travel win.
4. Use Rakuten for Shopping Rewards
Rakuten makes it easy to earn cash-back into Amex Membership Rewards points on everyday purchases. I transfer these points to airlines to book flights-making them basically free. It’s a win-win for both shopping and travel! Stack your $30 bonus on top of Cash Back at over 3,500 stores. Use my link to join for free.
5. Do Your Own Mani-Pedis
Skipping the salon and doing your own manicures and pedicures can save upwards of $100 every two weeks—money that can go towards booking up to $2600 worth of vacations and create lifelong memories.
6. Skip Tanning Packages
Instead of splurging on tanning salon packages, I make use of the tanning beds included in my Planet Fitness membership. While I rarely use them, I’ll sometimes pop in for 5-6 minutes a few times before a cruise or trip to get a base tan. For the rest, I rely on my self-tanning skills. A $20 bottle of Tanologist lasts me a long time and delivers salon-quality results at home.
7. Refill and Reuse
I’m all about sustainability and saving money. I use refillable lotion pouches for sunscreen, shampoo and conditioner instead of buying pricey travel-sized bottles. It’s eco-friendly and budget-friendly.
8. Bring a Refillable Water Bottle
Why spend $8 on water at the airport when you can fill your own for free? I always travel with a refillable water bottle and fill it up at the airport to stay hydrated without breaking the bank. Not to mention when cruising most lines no longer use wasteful bottles of water, so yours will come in handy. It’s also a great way to keep your drinks ice cold under the Caribbean sun.
9. Plan and Budget Ahead
Saving for travel starts with setting clear goals. Whether it’s a tropical cruise or an all-inclusive resort, knowing the costs upfront helps you plan effectively. Break the total into smaller monthly savings goals and watch your travel fund grow.
10. Prioritize Your Expenses
Cut back on non-essential spending and redirect those funds to your travel budget. Small changes, like brewing coffee at home or dining out less, can add up quickly and bring you closer to your next getaway.
