Ah, San Juan, Puerto Rico! The vibrant colors, the lively culture, and the warm tropical breeze was calling my name. I’ve had the pleasure of exploring this beautiful city on my own, and let me tell you, it’s an experience you won’t want to miss. There is no passport needed for US citizens and so many people on the island speak both Spanish and English, so it’s really easy talking to people you meet.
I stayed at La Concha Renaissance San Juan Resort. This luxurious beachfront property offers everything you need for a blissful solo vacation. The sandy beaches and 3 pools are the perfect spots to soak up the sun and unwind. My personal experience at La Concha was relaxing and refreshing. The resort’s amenities included free bicycle rental, water aerobics, a fitness center and more.
While you’re in San Juan, be sure to explore the historic Castillo San Felipe del Morro forts. These historical landmarks offer not only a glimpse into Puerto Rico’s past but also breathtaking views of the city and the ocean beyond. Trust me, you’ll want to have your camera ready for those Instagram-worthy shots. As I was walking up to the fort I noticed a girl trying to take a selfie so I offered to take her photo. She took mine and we decided to spend the day together touring the forts, walking around Old San Juan and enjoying the pool and beach and my hotel. It’s fun making new friends while traveling solo.
As you wander through the streets of Old San Juan, you’ll be enchanted by the colorful facades, cobblestone streets, and charming architecture. Take your time to explore the boutique shops, art galleries, and local cafes that line the streets. It’s the perfect place to immerse yourself in the local culture and indulge in some retail therapy. Be respectful of locals and churches if you enter, most importantly look out for vehicles when trying to cross the street.
This was my second trip to Puerto Rico in the last 6 months. I came in May with a friend for 4 days. We stayed at the Marriott Resort Stellaris Casino in an ocean front room with a balcony. During that trip we went on a nighttime neon glow kayaking tour in the Condado Bay. The water was calm, it’s an easy paddle and we even saw a star fish. We also took a half day tour to the El Yunque rainforest and Luquillo Beach. Our Viator tour guide was amazing. Luquillo Beach had perfect Caribbean colored water and palm tree lined beaches. I highly recommend both tours.
